This guide helps you configure your firm’s Statement of Account templates and settings in Unity®
By adjusting these preferences, you ensure accurate, consistent, and professional financial documents for your firm.
Access Statement of Account Settings
- From the Account Administration/Settings page, click Statement of Account,
Statement of Account Templates Page
This page displays all Statement of Account templates, including their default status, matter type, active status, last updated date, and the User ID of the last update.
At the top, you’ll see two buttons:

Add Statement of Account Template
Manage General Statement of Account Settings
Click Manage General Statement of Account Settings to configure:

Accounting Software - Select your firm’s software (Unity Accounting, PCLaw, or Cosmolex).
Tip: Click Manage Accounting Software Codes to confirm GL Accounting Codes are set up.
Matter Identifier Number - Choose whether to use the accounting number, file number, or matter number.

Trust Ledger or Statement of Account Entries - For each item, select how the entry is inserted:
Into Trust Ledger automatically
Into Trust Ledger as an F9 value (pulls data from the matter)
Into Statement of Account automatically
Into Statement of Account as an F9 value

Items - Entries that can be inserted automatically or as an F9 value, such as:
Title Insurance Premium
Electronic Mortgage Processing Fees
Land Transfer Tax
Non-Resident Speculation Tax
Title Registration

HST (or GST) Settings for Compliance Fees
Choose whether to show on department settings or treat all as subject to HST.General Statement of Account Window
Add Statement Of Account Template
Click the burger menu next to an existing template and choose Copy Template.
Enter a name, assign it to a matter type, and set fees and disbursements (subject to or not subject to HST).
If exporting to accounting software, add the appropriate account codes.
Choose whether to make it the default template, mark it active or inactive, and select the checkbox to calculate the fee from an all-inclusive price (enter the amount).
Click Save.
Copy an Existing Template
- Click the burger menu next to an existing template and choose Copy Template.
- Edit the new copy as needed.

Copy Existing Template
Edit a Matter-Specific Statement of Account Template
Click the matter type in the Template Name column, or open the burger menu and select Open.

In the Edit Statement of Account Template window, you can:
View the Template Name and Matter Type (cannot be changed for default templates: Purchase, Mortgage, Sale, Discharge).
Add or delete lines for Fees and Disbursements using the burger menu; set amounts or leave as Calculated to auto-fill from matter data.
Assign Accounting Codes as set in general settings.
Select a row, then use Move Up or Move Down to reorder lines.
Click Reset to restore the default template.
Mark the template as Active or Inactive.

Click Save.
Statement of Account Template - Select Existing Template
Apply Template Changes at the Matter Level
Changes made to a Statement of Account template apply only to new matters created after the update. Existing matters remain unchanged.
To apply the updated template to an existing matter:
Open the matter and go to the Statement of Account tab.
Click Actions and select Reset. Matter > Statement of Account Tab > Actions > Reset
Important: Resetting the Statement of Account clears existing values and replaces them with the updated template.
