This guide takes you through the three default Access Rights Profiles in Unity®
Here we explain how each profile determines what your staff can view and access. Understanding these profiles ensures the right access level for everyone—keeping your firm secure and efficient
How Access Works
Unity® defines two main roles for staff:
Account Administrator: Access to Account Administration/Settings and Billing pages.
User: Assigned as either a Billing User or Customer User.
These roles align with the three default Access Rights Profiles:
Account Administrator
Billing User
Customer User
You can review access rights profiles and their permissions on the Access Rights Profiles page. This ensures a clear overview of staff access and helps maintain accuracy as roles evolve.
Accessing Access Rights Profiles
From the Account Administration/Settings page, click Access Rights Profiles.
Important: It’s best to leave the default Access Rights Profiles permissions unchanged. If you’d like to create your own, click Add New.
Access Rights Profiles Types
Customer User
A Customer User is the standard Unity® profile—ideal for staff who handle matters day-to-day but don’t need firm-wide settings or billing access.
Access Includes:
Logging in
Opening and conveying matters
Working with Opportunities and custom matters
Accessing all anchor pages
Installing UnityDrive, and using UnityC and UnityPi (Unity’s free mobile app)
Restrictions Include:
Billing page
Account Administration
Customer User Permissions
Billing User
The Billing User profile offers the same access as the Customer User, with one key difference: they can view and manage the Billing page. This profile is ideal for staff who handle invoices or monitor billing activity but don’t require administrator control.
Additional Access:
View and work with the Billing page
Restricted From:
Account Administration
Billing User Permissions
Account Administrator
An Account Administrator has the highest level of access. They can do everything a Customer and Billing User can and have full access to the Account Administration page, which includes:
General Administration:
Account Details
Staff Profiles
Manage Matter Types
Integration Credentials
CIRF
Title Insurance Configuration
Conveyancer Configuration:
Manage Document Profiles
Statement of Account
Extended Workflows Categories

Manage Export Templates
Maintain Checklist Templates
Remote Signing Defaults
Restrictions?
None—Account Administrators have full system access.
Account Administrator Permissions
Access Rights Profiles are assigned to staff on the Staff Profiles page, under the Unity User Details tab. If you’d like to learn more, please visit our Staff Profiles article.
Tip
It’s best to have at least two Account Administrators to ensure backup access when needed.
