This article contains release notes for Unity® Accounting during December 2025
Dye & Durham are pleased to announce December update for Unity® Accounting comprising of a variety of useability improvements and reporting enhancements
FEATURES
BILLING: ADMIN FEE CALCULATION CORRECTED
An issue was resolved where the administration expense fee applied automatically during billing did not calculate correctly when applying a discount to the bill or when changes were made to the time/fees selected for billing.
- The calculation logic has been updated so that administration fees now accurately reflect these changes to the total time/fees to be billed. This will ensure consistency with client expectations.
LISTS - CONTACT ROLE: CREATING/EDITING A CONTACT ROLE PRODUCES AN ERROR MESSAGE ON SAVE & CLOSE
An issue was resolved where creating or editing a contact role caused an error message when using Save & Close.
- This action now works as expected without errors.
NEW VERSION AND DATABASE UPDATE IMPROVEMENTS
Application Version: Out of Date Indicator
If the Unity Accounting database has been updgraded to a new version, then all users need to upgrade their installed applications to the new version as well. Previously, users had no way of knowing that their application version was out of sync with the database version.
- A new indicator has been added to inform users at a firm when their database has been upgraded but their personal application installation has not.
- This will help to prevent compatibility issues as all of the users in a firm will be reminded to complete the update so that everyone is operating with the same version.
Error Log Storage
- An improvement has been made to ensure that error logs are stored in the database, this allows the Customer Support team to review the logs for the customer, even if the errors are not sent in via email at the time of error.
Improved UTBMS Validation
- To address errors introduced by customer data entry or legacy scripts, validation has been added to UTBMS functionality to ensure only numeric values are entered in fields intended for numeric data.
- This prevents upgrade failures caused by incorrect entries (e.g., “LEDES2000” instead of “1”) and improves overall system reliability.
Progress Bar Enhancement
- The window showing the progress indicator during database updates has been updated from a script count (e.g., 14/1204) to a percentage (e.g., 12%) for a cleaner, more user-friendly display.
Retry Logic for Network Interruptions
- If the backup fails during the database upgrade due to network related issues, for example, the system will now automatically retry again after a set time has passed. Three attempts will be made before it will fail and log an error.
Timehout Handling for Large Databases
- Update scripts have been improved to avoid unnecessary steps on modern databases and only apply changes where needed for older systems. This reduces delays and prevents timeouts on large databases.
TRUST RECEIPTS: UNITY ACCOUNTING CRASHES WHEN POSTING TRUST RECEIPT WITH "PRINT ON SAVE"
- Some firms were experiencing issues with Unity® Accounting crashing when posting trust receipts and “Print on Save” was enabled.
- This only affected some workstations and was caused by environmental workstation setup issues. This has now been resolved.
REPORTS
CLOSED DESTRUCTION DATE
A problem was occurring where running the Closed Destruction Date report with the filter “Report by Firm” produced a blank report.
- The system now correctly generates the report with the expected details when this filter is applied.
- As well, when a report is created for transactions within a specific time period, the report provided will be specific to those dates. This fix ensures accurate reporting for firm-level destruction dates.
CLOSED LISTING
An issue was identified where the Closed Listing report did not include certain closed clients/matters when filtered by “Report by Firm.”
- The system now correctly includes all closed clients/matters in both reports, ensuring consistency with the File Room Listing report and accurate reporting across all options.
