This article contains release notes for Unity® Accounting, launching on 17 November 2025.
1. Features
1.1 Administration Expense Fee Calculation
- Corrected the calculation logic for Administration Expense fees when using “Percentage of Total Time & Fees” or “Percentage of Total Disbursements” options. These were applying the percentage to the total bill instead of the intended component.
- The fee now calculates correctly based on the selected setting in Clients & Matters and is posted as a disbursement using the specified code. All calculations are now performed before tax, as expected.
1.2 Cloud Backup Restore Issue
- A problem was resolved where cloud-based customers were unable to restore backups due to missing restore files. Restore a backup now functions as expected.
1.3 Logout Prompt on Window Close
- Improved logout behavior when users click the X to close Unity Accounting. Previously, this action did not log the user out, causing login errors or blocking single-user mode.
- Users are now prompted with: “Do you want to log out of Unity Accounting?” with options to confirm or suppress future prompts. This ensures consistent logout behavior whether exiting via File → Exit or the window close button.
1.4 Outstanding Cheques: Error When Removing
- When attempting to remove an “Outstanding Cheque” from General or Trust accounts an error message occurred. This occurred when new firms tried to correct data entry mistakes made during their accounting setup. Outstanding cheques can now be removed without error, as expected.
1.5 PST Not Displayed After Editing Disbursement
- An issue has been resolved where PST was not shown in the Disbursements Ledger tab after the disbursement was edited. Tax amounts now display accurately after edits, ensuring consistency across the ledger.
1.6 Unbilled Time Write-Off Posting to Incorrect GL Account
- Logic has been applied to ensure that when a firm writes-off unbilled time entries the accounting uses the correct GL account for posting, as determined by the firm in their Global Settings.
1.7 Version Updates: Improved Error Logging
- Improvements were made to the error logging functionality when issues arrive during a system update, ensuring that the Unity Accounting team can provide the support necessary to resolve these issues in a timely fashion.
2. Reports
2.1 Events, Tasks and Limitations Reports: Resolved Multiple Times
Resolved multiple issues affecting the Events, Tasks & limitations report:
- The automatic daily version now correctly includes only items due in 0, 1, 7, 30, 90 or 180 days, as intended for daily review.
- The manual version continues to show all active events, tasks, and limitations based on selected filters, without being restricted by the due in days.
- References to holidays have been removed in filters and report sections, as public holidays are not tracked and the reference is misleading to users.
- Items due today now correctly show 0 in the “Due In (days)” column.
- Fixed inconsistencies in due in day calculations for future-dated items.
2.2 Pre-Bill Summary Report: Taxable Disbursements Not Displayed in Correct Section
- An issue has been fixed where disbursements created with PST were not appearing under Taxable Disbursements in the Pre-Bill Summary report. Taxable disbursements now display correctly in the report as expected.
2.3 Pre-Bill Summary Report: Tax Totals Are Incorrect
- Clients noticed that GST and PST totals in the Pre-Bill Summary report didn’t always match the client disbursement ledger or the Pre-Bill/QuickBill. This has been resolved. Tax is now correctly calculated based on disbursement code settings, and totals are consistent across reports and billing stages.
2.4 Statements & Reminders: Interest Incorrectly Calculated on Statement Template Modern 1
- An issue has been addressed where the Statement Template Modern 1 template incorrectly calculated interest for clients set to “Do not charge interest” under Billing & Statements → Statement Settings. The template now respects client-specific interest settings and no longer adds interest where it shouldn’t.
2.5 Trust Listing Report: Missing Client With Active Balance
- For those law firms with a client/matter number that included brackets, e.g. 23-8543(1), a problem was encountered.
- A client with an active trust balance was not appearing in the Trust Listing report. This occurred when filtering by a client/matter number, the brackets caused the report to exclude the client. The report now correctly includes all clients with trust balances as of the selected end date, regardless of formatting in the client/matter number.
