This article covers how to change the Fee Allocation Method default setting and overriding this setting for a specific client/matter within Unity® Accounting
Changing the Default Fee Allocation Method Globally (Firm wide)
- Click on "Maintenance"
- Click on "Global Settings"
- Click on the "General" tab
- Scroll to "Fee".
- Click on the down arrow
Select required "Fee" allocation setting.
Two options are available:
"A" Allocate all billed fees and receipts to the Responsible Lawyer, or
"P" Prorate billed fees and receipts based on lawyers who have worked on the client or matter
The option selected will now be the default setting for all new open files. This setting can be overridden when opening a new file and billing on the Client/Matter. (See below for more information) |
7. Click on "Save & Close"
Changing Default Allocation Fee for a specific Client/Matter
- Click on "Clients/Matters"
- Locate "Client/Matter" to update
- Double click or right click
Select "Edit", or click on "
"
- Click on "Billing & Statements Settings" tab.
- Navigate to "Distribution Of Billed Fees And Receipts"
- Click on the drop down arrow
Select the default fee allocation setting for the specific Client/Matter
Three options are available:
"A" Distribute all billed fees and receipts to the Responsible Lawyer/timekeeper, or
"P" Prorate billed fees and receipts based on time entered, or
"R" Distribute billed fees and receipts based on percentages
The option selected will now be the default setting for this file. This setting can be overwritten when billing the Client/Matter.
Click on "Save & Close"
Change the Fee Allocation on Bills
- In the "Create Pre-bills & Bills" feature
- Select the Client/Matter to bill
- Navigate to "Alloc" and click on the down arrow
Select the Fee Allocation for this bill
Four options are available:
"A" All to responsible lawyer, or
"P" Prorate based on time entered, or
"M" Manually enter an amount, or
"R" Manually enter by percentage
Only time a manual fee allocation method can be select for billing of fees
- Click on "Finalize Bill"
